Candidate Forum  2019

The League of Women Voters of LaPorte County and the Better Government Study Group invites you to our Candidate Forum .  The Candidate Forum is a moderated Q&A, with written questions submitted by the audience and organizers.

March 28, 2019

  • The League of Women Voters of LaPorte County (“the League”) will provide a moderator for the forum.
  • The order of the presentation will be determined by the moderator and varied in order to give equal opportunity to the candidates.
  • Candidates will be given two (2) minutes for an opening statement, one (1) minute to answer a question and one (1) minute for closing remarks.   In the interests of time, the number of questions for the candidates may be limited.
  • No visual aids will be permitted.
  • If a candidate cannot attend the forum, the candidate may inform the League of the name of a substitute who will be permitted to make a two (2) minute statement on behalf of the candidate but not answer any questions or give a closing statement.
  • Those candidates who are unopposed are limited to a two (2) minute opening statement but not permitted to answer questions or give closing remarks.
  • Only written questions screened by the League’s Voter Service Committee will be accepted at the forum. 
  • Forum content is the property of League of Women Voters of LaPorte County and permission must be obtained to use this content.  The League will only authorize use of video or audio from the forum in its entirety.   The forum may be recorded for future broadcast on local cable access stations and thru the League’s website: www.lwvlaporte.org
  • No voice, image or other duplication of the forum may be used by any candidate’s representative or campaign.
  • The League will not permit unauthorized audio or video taping of this forum but assumes no   risk if an unauthorized video or audio tape is broadcast.
  • Candidates may not display any campaign material (including wearing campaign shirts, hats and buttons) in or near the forum room prior to, during or immediately after the forum. 
  • Candidates must sign and return a copy of these rules to the League by February 28, 2019.

Thursday, April 4, 6 p.m. at the La Porte County Complex, 809 State Street, La Porte, Indiana. Candidates for Mayor of La Porte, Clerk/Treasurer of La Porte, and La Porte City Council candidates for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and at-large, will be present.
